Months after the tragic death of the beloved comedian, the sources close to the star’s family have confirmed that Robin Williams was indeed suffering from Lewy Body Dementia, which is likely to have been a factor in his death.

Tough Medication

The condition is apparently a form of dementia associated with Parkinson’s disease and the medication for the relief from Parkinson’s can often cause side effects for those suffering from it, and the side effects are often severe hallucinations.

“Robin’s wife had told authorities shortly after his death he had been complaining about the meds and the way they made him feel,” official Court documents state.

Parkinson’s Vs. Dementia

Sources close to Williams family apparently told TMZ magazine that Lewy Body Dementia was the actually the key factor in the actor’s decision to take his own life.

“The condition itself is caused by the build-up of protein into clumps, called Lewy bodies, in the brain, which can damage nerve cells in areas involved in memory and thinking,” says Hilary Evans, Director of External Affairs at Alzheimer’s Research UK.

“These protein clumps also play a role in Parkinson’s disease,” Hilary continued, “so some people with dementia with Lewy bodies will also experience movement symptoms similar to those seen in Parkinson’s.”

The good-hearted star was found dead in his home in California back in August. The 63-year-old Robin died of suicide by asphyxiation.

More details on this matter are expected soon.
