Among celebrities famous for their humanitarian work, like Bono or Oprah, there is one that still catches the eye of the public with her controversial movies and adoptions.

Angelina Jolie, who currently works as an actress, a director, and the UN refugee agency’s Special Envoy, arrived to northern Iraq on Sunday to visit a refugee camp there.

Needless to say, the “Tomb Raider” star was met with open arms by men, women, and children who managed to survive the recent ISIS attacks.

This is the beginning of Jolie’s two-day UN trip to Kurdistan, the autonomous region of Iraq. After this, she is set to visit Syrian refugees and displaced Iraqi citizens, whose number is a little more than 3.3 million.

The 39-year-old Oscar winner told the press: “Children whose parents were murdered and are now here unaccompanied—a 19 year old working and being the sole provider for his 7 siblings. I have met mothers whose children have been kidnapped by ISIL. As a parent, I couldn’t imagine a greater horror. They are overwhelmed by thoughts of what is happening to their children.”

Jolie’s husband Brad Pitt, with whom she has 6 children, didn’t join her for the trip, as we’ve seen him at the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday.

One thing is for sure – Angelina Jolie likes to draw the attention of the media towards these kinds of situations, and once she’s determined to show us something, we’ll surely see it.
