2001 wasn’t that successful a year for this TV and film actress, but failed Hollywood projects weren’t the worst thing that happened to Rebecca that year.

On June 13th, the actress was driving on a Los Angeles street when she struck and killed nine-year-old Jorge Cruz.

Ok, little Jorge wasn’t using the crosswalk, but the cars in front of Rebecca did in fact stop allowing Jorge to cross the street. Rebecca was talking on a cell phone and wasn’t paying attention, veered around the cars in an effort to avoid stopping and hit Cruz in the left-turn lane.

The actress was sentenced to three years’ probation, a one-year suspension of her license, a $2,800 fine and 750 hours of community service. There was also a civil lawsuit from the Cruz family, but was settled out of court.
