10 Times David Bowie Shocked The World

5-Basquiat

5. The Warhol Moment

Bowie always had a thing for acting, and he always tried to snatch a role in a movie here and there, almost until his untimely death.

In 1996, the artistic legend played another huge artist who changed the world, in Julian Schnabel’s biopic Basquiat.

Bowie played Andy Warhol, a visual artist and all-around celebrity, with whom he had a lot of things in common.

For instance, both of them were two of the greatest artists who played around with the ideas of celebdom and image, they were both close to Lou Reed, and Bowie even sang about Warhol on Hunky Dory.

Schnabel was aware of that, and he decided to snatch a huge celebrity to play the role of one of the biggest celebrities ever. If anything, no one would ever criticize him for that slick move.
