Celebrities are used to being in the spotlight, but sometimes it’s for all the wrong reasons. Just like normal Americans, celebrities are not immune to the law. Here are 10 of the biggest stars who have been accused of assault, but have never been found guilty.
1. Kobe Bryant
In July 2003, Kobe Bryant was accused of raping a 19-year old while in Eagle, Colorado for a surgery. Bryant admitted to having had a sexual rendezvous with the young lady; however, he stated that it was consensual. Ultimately, the case was dismissed in court; however, Bryant paid an undisclosed sum to the woman in a civil case.
Bryant may not have been found guilty by a jury, but if the ring he gave his wife after the case is any sign then it probably wasn’t an innocent encounter.
2. Jameis Winston
The star QB of the Florida State Seminoles, the 2013 BCS National Champions, was accused of raping a fellow student while a freshman. Winston admitted to having sex with the girl; however, he and several of his teammates stated that it was consensual.
All charges were dropped and Winston went on to become the second freshman to win the Heisman Trophy.
3. Cee Lo Green
Cee Lo Green was charged with sexual assault after it was alleged that he slipped a drug in a woman’s drink while at a sushi restaurant in L.A. According to the woman, she remembers meeting Cee Lo at the restaurant, but does not remember anything else until she wakes up naked in his bed.
The sexual assault charges were dismissed and Green was charged with furnishing ecstasy, a felony.
4. Mel Gibson
In January 2010, Gibson was arrested for assaulting his former girlfriend. According to the police report, Gibson sucker-punched his girlfriend while she was holding their baby daughter in her arms. In the months after, Gibson was also caught on tape threatening to kill his girlfriend while on the phone.
5. Emma Roberts
Police officers were called to the hotel room of Emma Roberts and her boyfriend Evan Peters in 2012 after reports of an altercation and yelling. When the police arrived, they found Peters with a bloody nose and bite marks on his face and body.
Ultimately, the charges were dropped and the couple stated that it was a misunderstanding.
6. Alec Baldwin
Paparazzi take notice: stay away from Alec Baldwin if you have a camera. Baldwin has hit not one, but at least two paparazzi who attempted to snap pictures of him.
7. Shia LaBeouf
The star of The Transformers franchise was arrested after getting into a bar fight in Canada. Even after being kicked out of the club, LaBeouf continued the fight on the streets until the police arrived. In the end, the assault and battery charges against the actor were dropped.
8. Jenelle Evans
The star of MTV’s Teen Mom has certainly seen her fair share of controversy and publicity since having a baby as a 16-year old. Despite her relative youth, Evans carries quite a rap sheet with arrests for disorderly conduct, cussing in public, drug possession and even assaulting her own mother. Not every charge has stuck, though.
9. Lindsay Lohan
In November 2012, Lohan was arrested and charged with assault stemming from an altercation with a woman at a club in New York City. Because the police could not build a strong enough case against Lohan the charges were dropped.
10. Charlie Sheen
Charlie Sheen is no stranger to being in trouble with the law. His legal drama began in 1997 when he pled no contest after assaulting his former girlfriend. In 2007, Sheen was arrested for assaulting his wife while on vacation.
Sheen’s police record reached a new high in 2010 when he was accused by a porn star of strangling her in a hotel room. Sheen was never charged in the case.
