5. Jay Thomas

The actor, comedian, and radio talk show host, Jay Thomas, was in his early thirties and his career was on the rise when the two found out they were about to become parents.

This unplanned pregnancy took them pretty much by surprise, so Thomas and his girlfriend at the time (we don’t know her name) decided, after many hours, days and weeks of thinking, that adoption was indeed the best solution after all.

“It was painful,” Thomas said in a statement for People. “We talked about getting married, but I realized that we would have the kid and then get divorced, and I didn’t want that. I didn’t want him to be mixed up in a bad situation that was not of his making.”

Thomas and his lost son reunited in 2007.
