O’Neal’s biological father Joseph Toney was largely absent from his life, and Shaq was raised by his stepfather Phillip A. Harrison, who was Muslim, and a Christian mother, Lucille O’Neal.
The 7 ft 1 retired NBA star publically shared that “Phil was [his] father” on more than one occasion and he accepted his stepfather’s religion as a tribute to everything he’s done for Shaq.
On the other hand, the celebrated basketball player also said “I’m Muslim, I’m Jewish, I’m Buddhist, I’m everybody ’cause I’m a people person,” a statement that more than explains his enticing personality both on and off the court.
