13. Michelle Pfeiffer: Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs

Screenwriter Ted Tally envisioned Jodie Foster in the role of Clarice Starling in the creepy psychological thriller “The Silence of the Lambs.”

Jodie Foster desperately wanted the role, but director Jonathan Demme wanted Michelle Pfeiffer.

Pfeiffer was put off by the amount of gore in the movie and its heavy subject matter, so Foster eventually landed the role.

Pfeiffer has admitted that she prefers to avoid films that end up as huge commercial hits.

Perhaps that is why she also turned down parts in both “Basic Instinct” and “Pretty Woman.” Since passing on the horror classic, Pfeiffer has gone on to play several great roles in films like “I Am Sam”, “Hairspray” and “What Lies Beneath.”

The former beauty queen was noticeably absent from our screens throughout most of the last decade as she took an extended hiatus to focus on her husband and two children.
