Being seriously ill when famous can put a particular strain on the family, friends, doctors and other health professionals who are involved, as well as the person being sick.
As if having health problems is not enough, celebrities have to deal with the paparazzi invading their privacy, the media publishing false stories about their condition and friends and family members being harassed. A-list celebrities deal with their lives being put on display on a daily basis, but when sick, they become more like the rest of us than ever before.
Here is a list of top 9 celebrities who have been gravely ill.
1. Hugh Jackman
The Australian actor speaks publically about his health issues to raise awareness and motivate others to wear sunscreen and adequately protect their skin.
The “X-Men: Days of Future Past” star was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, which is, like most forms of cancer, more likely to be cured if detected early.
Basal cell carcinoma is the most commonly diagnosed form of skin cancer, which affects about 2.8 million people in the US every year. In May 2014, Jackman posted a photo of himself on Instagram with a bandage on his nose after receiving the second batch of treatment, advising his followers “not to be foolish like him”.
The actor has since appeared to be in good spirits, participating in different campaigns to raise awareness for various forms of cancer, including testicular cancer.
