Jean-Francois Payen, a French doctor who treated Michael Schumacher after his skiing accident, revealed that it may take any time between one and three years for the Formula 1 champion to recover.

We Need to be Patient

The doctor was speaking to French radio station RTL, as well as to Le Parisien newspaper on Thursday when he stated that Michael was indeed making ‘some progress,’ however, it would take time.

“It’s like for other patients, we are on a timescale which goes from one year to three years and we need to be patient,” Dr Jean-Francois said in the interview.

According to reports, the Formula 1 champion, who is still immobile and unable to speak, is currently in his family home in Lausanne, Switzerland where he is being cared for by the team of 15 doctors.

Michael’s Wife is there for him

Talking about Michael’s condition and terrible accident, Dr Jean-Francois also praised his wife for being constantly there for him.

“Immediately she understood the seriousness of the situation and the long journey that lay before them. She sees things very clearly and will do anything and give everything to improve the condition of her husband,” he added.

Last year, shortly before New Year’s Eve, Michael Schumacher had a skiing accident while he was on holiday in the French Alps. Germany’s best Formula 1 driver fell and hit his head on a rock, which left him with severe head injuries.
