According to Forbes Magazine, Michael Jordan has officially joined the billionaire club.

The former NBA superstar has become the first athlete billionaire, a goal that none other than LeBron James set for himself but never managed to accomplish.

The business move that Jordan made to join the elite club was an increase of his stake in the Charlotte Hornets from 80 percent to 89.5 percent. Jordan previously purchased the NBA franchise in 2010, back when they were called the Bobcats.

The 52-year-old’s billionaire status was confirmed on Monday, placing him among one of the 290 new billionaires in the world.

The majority of Jordan’s cash comes from Nike and his iconic Jordan brand. In 2013 alone, the Jordan brand grossed an estimated $2.25 billion! On the other hand, the Charlotte Hornets are his most valuable asset, worth more than $500 million. In addition to Jordan, 17 other NBA owners are also billionaires, which is more than half in the 30-team league.

Michael Jordan has also become 513th richest person in America.
