The dress Lupita Nyong’o wore to the Oscars was reported missing on Tuesday from the London Hotel in West Hollywood. The dress was designed by Calvin Klein and made out of 6,000 natural pearls, which put its value at an estimated $150,000.

On Friday, officials reported a dress that “greatly resembles” the star’s gown was recovered, but the sheriff’s office was unable to verify 100% whether the dress they found was actually Lupita’s dress.

Although the dress is valued at $150,000, experts agree it could even be worth more on the black market.

The dress that “strongly resembles” the stolen gown was found in an abandoned bathroom at the London Hotel, and the person claiming to have stolen the dress supposedly revealed the information on where to find it.

In the latest twist, it was reported that the thief found the door to the actress’s room ajar and snatched the dress, but later discovered the pearls it was made from were actually fake, and subsequently decided to return it.

It still remains to be seen whether any charges will be laid in this case as well as whether the dress that was recovered is in fact the dress Lupita wore to the ceremony. As to the value of the dress and the authenticity of the pearls, we may never know for sure.
