Hollywood’s A-lister and heartthrob, Colin Farrell, is doing his part when it comes to supporting same sex marriages, and the reason for this is his brother, apparently.

During his stay in Ireland, the actor has penned an open letter in support for gay marriage, stating it was his older brother’s ordeal caused by series of bullying experiences when he a gay youngster that inspired Colin to write the letter.

Peace & Love Vs. Beatings

Farrell revealed that his brother, Eamon, is now “living in peace and love with his husband of some years, Steven,” but he also stated that Eamon suffered beatings due to his sexual orientation as a schoolboy.

The actor officially addressed the Sunday World newspaper asking and encouraging his nation to make history by supporting the same-sex marriage at the upcoming referendum which will happen next spring.

Eamon Didn’t Choose to be Gay

He also admitted he was “surprised and intrigued” when he as a 12-year-old found out that his brother was gay.

“I was curious because it was different from anything I’d known or heard of and yet it didn’t seem unnatural to me. I just knew my brother liked men and, I repeat, it didn’t seem unnatural to me. My brother, Eamon, didn’t choose to be gay,” said the actor.

“Yes, he chose to wear eyeliner to school and that probably wasn’t the most pragmatic response to the daily torture he experienced at the hands of school bullies. But he was always proud of who he was. Proud and defiant and, of course, provocative.”

“Eamon and his partner, Steven Mannion are the healthiest and happiest couple I know“, said the 38-year-old Colin.
