4. Emily Browning: Bella in the Twilight series

When an actor goes so far as to refuse to even audition for a role that went on to enjoy massive global success such as Bella Swan in the “Twilight” series, they’ve got to have nerves of steel to not feel a twinge of regret.

Browning had nothing against the role or the films but had just finished shooting the horror flick “The Uninvited.”

She felt that she needed to take a break from acting rather than ploughing right into a film that was likely to become a series.

The role ultimately went to Kristen Stewart. Very few young actors manage to achieve the level of fame that the lead actors of the “Twilight” franchise now hold, but such success also comes with a price.

Stewart has had well-documented struggles with fame and is often criticised for looking bored, sullen or disinterested when attending promotional events.

The actress also landed herself in hot water after she claimed that being photographed by the paparazzi is comparable to being raped. Despite the madness and intrusion of privacy that comes with being one of the most successful actresses of her generation, Stewart has not taken a step back from the limelight.

She has a string of movies coming out in 2014 and was recently signed as the new face of Chanel.
