Dying is, arguably, the most natural thing that happens to every living being, and it’s the only thing we can be certain of. It’s also incredibly sad, even if someone who didn’t know personally dies, like in this sad occasion – a celebrity. And what a celebrity he was!

David Bowie, arguably one of the greatest musicians of all time, has died at the age of 69, after battling cancer for 18 months, surrounded by his loved ones. The sad news was shared via a statement on the musician’s various official social media accounts, and it concluded with the family asking for privacy during their time of grief.

Born as David Jones in 1947, Bowie changed his name after The Monkee’s David Jones rose to fame. After being in a mime company and playing the saxophone, Bowie signed with Mercury Records in 1969, which released Man of Words/Man of Music, an album which became a sensation.

The singer, songwriter, producer, and actor excelled at various music genres, including art rock, glam rock, dance pop, soul, and electronica. His career lasted for over 40 years, during which he released 25 albums, including his last one Blackstar, which saw the light of day on January 8th (his birthday).

Bowie came to international acknowledgement in 1972, with his The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars album, which portrayed him as an alien. Three years later, the Brit achieved his very first major successful American crossover with a single titled Fame, which was followed by an rock album Station To Station. Some of his other incredibly memorable hit songs include Let’s Dance, Space Oddity, Changed, Heroes, China Girl, Rebel Rebel, Life On Mars, Fashion, Panic In Detroit, Modern Love, Under Pressure, etc.

The artists also appeared on the big screen, with memorable roles in Marlene Dietrich’s last film Just A Gigolo, Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation Of Christ, and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth.

He is survived by his wife, supermodel Iman, son Duncan, and daughter Alexandria.
